Surviving the Catch-22, and living to tell about it.
The music that Rosanne makes describes aspects of life from between the cracks. Growing up on the ‘wrong side of the tracks’, Rosanne has flourished into the world of music and industry through sheer desire, discipline, and commitment.
A broken home, the child welfare system, government projects,
Rosanne thrives.
“Gravity” will be her first full-length album containing a collection of all her best compositions. The recording of this project is scheduled to start in the next few months, but the actual conception of it started years ago, in the quiet moments at the keyboard, in the middle of the night.
A desire to tell the stories that are not expressed and to relate to others through this universal language,
Rosanne writes.
"Rosanne Howell is the quintessential talent of what can only be described as the art deco era of popular music. As a student of the blues, jazz and funk she has emerged as an artist redefining her craft. Her ability to see in sound and paint both joy and pain in lyric are the intrinsic gifts of a life of convolution. Rosanne’s evolution made through tearful testimonials and joyful journal entries, as well as the nurturing and training of both her skill and talent. Such is the ascent of a Star, one I am happy to be granted the opportunity to work with, in assisting her with her career management and marketing direction" Constantine Batchelor.
Rosanne sings.
An honors student of music from Humber College, Trebas Institute, and Thompson River’s University, Rosanne now teaches music, and music software at Humber College, Long & McQuade, and privately. She is also a recording engineer in Humber’s new state-of-the-art studio, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and some other facilities, working on projects with David Clayton Thomas, the Champagne Symphony Orchestra (Big Band Jazz), Big Syke (Hip Hop), Wallis Giunta (Opera), and more. As well, Rosanne has been an audio professional for Film and Television for over ten years, working on projects like “Love Come Down” (Director Clement Virgo, Actor Larenz Tate, and Actor/Singer Debroah Cox), “American Rhapsody” (with Actor Scarlett Johansson), “Psycho Beach Party” (with Actor Lauren Ambrose), “Going Back” (Director Sidney J. Furie and Actor Casper Van Dien). Rosanne’s ability to contribute to this range of music and entertainment displays her ability and influence that can only enhance her own artwork.
Tupac Shakur is one of Rosanne’s biggest influences. His ability to exemplify, not only his survival in a world that leads to failure, but to bloom in its grey skies and dank soil, is an affirmation of her own journey to rise. Deeply touched by the legacy of Tupac Shakur, Rosanne participated in the official opening of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Centre for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Convening with his mother, Afeni Shakur-Davis, Rosanne was personally invited to share her knowledge and skills to the inner-city youth she is giving a chance to. The TASCentre hosts a summer camp that teaches music, poetry, acting, and dancing, ending with a musical production concert. This experience has cultivated new relationships and ideas for future endeavors. Now, Rosanne works with ‘at-risk’ youth locally, sharing the gift of music with the BlueSky DJ Service, a socially conscious company built off of the Children’s Aid Society. BlueSky trains youth to be professional disc jockeys and Rosanne assists by teaching music and technical concepts.
Everyone can relate to one side or the other, but some stories are just not told and should be. Rosanne takes up this challenge with songs that engage you into riveting stories that make you want to hear more.
